SOFTWARE TESTER
TRAINEE

The Software Tester (QA) Foundation Level delivers a core understanding of software testing and is required to progress to the advanced level papers, while the specialised certificates allow you to begin focusing your learning at foundation level.

Our programme is aligned to ISTQB foundation level standards.

GITHUB

GitHub is a code hosting platform for version control and collaboration. It lets you and others work together on projects from anywhere.
GitHub is the world’s largest software development platform. It provides cloud storage for source code, supports all popular programming languages, and streamlines the iteration process.

TEST MANAGEMENT

A test management tool is software used to manage tests (automated or manual) that have been previously specified by a test procedure. It is often associated with automation software.
Test management most commonly refers to the activity of managing a testing process. A test management tool is software used to manage tests that have been previously specified by a test procedure. It is often associated with automation software

TESTING TECHNIQUES

Software testing methodologies are the various strategies or approaches used to test an application to ensure it behaves and looks as expected.
Software Testing Techniques help you design better test cases. Since exhaustive testing is not possible; Manual Testing Techniques help reduce the number of test cases to be executed while increasing test coverage. They help identify test conditions that are otherwise difficult to recognize.

WHAT IS SOFTWARE TESTING?

Software Testing is a process of verifying a computer system/program and deciding whether it meets the specified requirements and produces the desired results. As a result, you identify bugs in software product/project.

WHAT SOFTWARE TESTERS DO?

The Software Tester is expected to perform tests to ensure that software operates as intended. It is a role involving the creation of testing plans and analysis for the achievement of user satisfaction. The Software Tester must have a sound understanding of the software lifecycle and software development practices.

WHY TO BECOME A SOFTWARE TESTER TRAINEE?

On any typical work day, you will be busy understanding requirement documents, creating test cases, executing test cases, reporting and re-testing bugs, attending review meetings and other team building activities.

CAREER INSIGHTS AND SALARY EXPECTATIONS

Starting salaries for graduate-level software testing positions range between £18,000 to £24,000.
With three to five years’ experience, salaries can rise considerably. Software testers earn £35,000 to £50,000 on average.

You should try Software Testing if...

  • you’re thinking about coding/software development but you’re a bit overwhelmed and don’t know where to start – Software Testing is a great introduction to Software Development!
  • you like to analyse problems, search for solutions and be challenged – different projects will always have different problems which requires variety of approaches
  • you’re thinking about professional development – Software testers are required in a variety of organisations and sectors so you could be working in pretty much everywhere, from financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, media, professional services, public sector, retail, etc.
  • you’re thinking about working in gaming sector, business analyst or project management

COMMON MYTHS

Based on Testuff, people often think about software testing as a boring job, however this is far from the truth. Testers have an important role to play as a part of every development team. Some people love crossword puzzles. These tiny printed word games represent the very essence of a perfect Sunday morning. By contrast, others view crossword puzzles as a complete waste of time.

Testers also can help save lives or push the frontiers of human experience. Think of all the medical devices, spaceships, or self-driving cars that had to pass through our hands before going out into the world. Granted, not every project is life or death. But even when debugging games or silly apps, what we do still has intrinsic value. We’re helping to build a better product.

Documentation is a job of everyone working on a project. A precise, complete and accurate document gives a foundation and historical evidence about the project.

However, for testers, documentation is more important because the deliverable we create is not a program or module, but it is an assured quality which takes a solid shape through artifacts. The Microsoft Office suite is the go-to choice for most teams but to take it to the next level, use test management software.

Many think that if you are a tester, you do not have a career growth in the management side. But both are mutually exclusive. To be a manager you need to acquire skills like people management, cost management, time management, etc. As you can see this has nothing to do with Testing, Development or anything else technical.

The project management skills have to be developed separately and anyone in this world belonging to any technology or stream can do that. So, being a tester does not encourage or deter project management pursuit. It is an independent field and anyone with a keen interest can make it.

It is a common perception that testing is just clicking on UI randomly and tracking details in excel or other documents.

The reality is that testers perform very well-defined test steps to assure that the UI/APP is working in exceptional cases as well. So, it is the vision that counts.

Since a user does not have boundaries on what they can and cannot do, the same goes for testers. This is why it is important to explore the UI, which might look like lots of random clicks.
